Next on the docket... a little neighborhood talent show! It was really casual and the kids chose what they wanted to do. There was everything from a fashion show.. piano pieces.. shooting soccer goals and hockey pucks.. and singing. Of course, my little Myles wanted to sing. I thought she might have a hard time getting up there alone, so I opened the invitation to anyone that wanted to join her.
They sang three songs they learned from Music Makers this year. We had one practice at our house the week before and the kids were well on their way! We practiced a few more times right before the show on the stage.. all the kids clammed up. It was a little intimidating.. stage lights, all the other kids/families.
But.. my kiddos rocked it! Well.. Mylie did. Luke definitely embraced his supporting role and just stood there. Mylie on the other hand.. sang loud and proud. She didn't sing as loud as she practiced, but she did a really great job. Actually, she was one of the only ones you could hear. Singing is one of her passions for sure and I love it.
It felt a little weird helping the kids practice... I seriously felt like a pageant mom. Gross! But, it was something I knew the kids loved and wanted to help them get comfortable being in front of people.
Actually, in the middle of the talent show, Mylie told me she didn't want to sing anymore. I think the whole "show" was a little intimidating. I told her she'd be fine, but didn't push the issue. Sure enough, when they called her name, she didn't hesitate to get up there. I'm proud of her for doing things that stretch her. She worked through her fear and was a star. Sure love my Mylie.
