HFMD again

Oh, HFMD.. it's been a while since we've been affected by it and I truly forgot how miserable it is!

Friday night Ethan woke up with a temp of 103.4 and we hardly slept the rest of the night.
My poor babe was burning up and miserable.

Saturday only got worse.  The high fever still present and only subsided a little by alternating ibuprofen and tylenol.  We had a fun family day planned of Luke's soccer game, swimming, etc, but life was put on hold.   Ethan didn't eat, drink or sleep much all day, which resulted in one miserable little guy!

Saturday night no one slept.. Ethan seemed to be in more pain than ever, despite all the meds.  We stayed up most the night, passing him back and forth, trying to console our sick boy.  I was convinced it was an ear infection.

Sunday morning, our typical juggling routine commenced.  Justin had Ward Council at 7am and we both were up early.  I'll be honest, it was pretty depressing seeing the clock at 6am, knowing we didn't get hardly any sleep and we had a full day ahead of us.

Daylight savings time + 2 nights of no sleep + 9am church = brutal.

Justin was home around 8:15am.. aka 7:15am.. and helped with Ethan while I got the rest of the kids ready for church.  Luckily, Justin stayed home with our sick little man so I could fulfill my chorister duties.

It's always the great debate.. which calling takes presidence? I know it's so important for Justin to be in EQ, being the president and all, but it's nearly impossible to find someone to sub for me last minute.  I hate that he's not able to have a 'pulse' on his quorum, but at the same time, I guess that's what counselors are for.
It just seems like it happens more often than not he's the one that has to stay home. I always feel terrible.

Anyway, during Sharing time in senior primary (my tiny break),
I checked in with Justin, who said that Ethan's throat was gnarly.  His guess... HFMD or Strep.
Either way, a trip to the Instacare was in the near future.

After church, I ran home, scooped up my sick boy and took him to the Instacare.
We waited nearly 2 hours to be seen! Ugh.  Not fun.
HFMD it was. I hate this stuff! Ethan didn't have the typical large blisters, but just a rash.
I thought that could've been attributed to his high fever??
We left the Instacare with nothing more than a 'good luck' and all we could do was 'let it pass'.
I felt better knowing we were doing everything we could and that we weren't missing anything major like an ear infection.

The rest of Sunday, Ethan was just as miserable as ever... crying nonstop, not sleeping and not eating.
Honestly, miserable seems like an understatement.  Truly.
We finally got him to bed around 11pm and exhaustion was setting in for all of us.
My heart was just breaking for my baby boy.  Nothing we did seemed to help.

Luckily, he didn't wake up nearly as much last night. Hooray!
It was nice to get more than 1 hour of consecutive sleep!

But, wow!! The sores sure made their appearance today. They look awful.
They now cover his arms, legs, elbows, face and bum.
Despite all this, Ethan did a little bit better today... started to eat and drink a little (barely).. fever subsided.. and he actually napped! Hallelujah!
We're praying for more sleep tonight and a happier babe tomorrow.

I can't wait until my joyful, crazy, silly and spunky boy returns.
Mylie and Luke are okay as of right now... praying for a miracle!
Fingers crossed that this is the only bout we have with HFMD this season..
It's just the beginning of it's season now that it's starting to warm up. Yikes!!

Here's a bout of HFMD Luke had when he was around 10 months old.. 2010.  Time sure flies!
