South Carolina: Sightseeing

First stop on our sightseeing day... Beaufort National Cemetery.
We went the day after the fourth, which added to the spirit of the holiday.
It was truly remarkable to be surrounded with so many reminders of those who truly sacrificed for our country.
The scenery was breathtaking.
Luke didn't last too long at the cemetery.  It was hot.  Hot is really an understatement.

We did have a chance to cool down on our ride over to Hunting Island State Park, our second adventure of the day.
It has the only lighthouse that is open to the public is South Carolina and was only a few miles from the beach house.
These two were able to make the 167 step climb and were so excited about it.
Unfortunately, Luke was too young and we weren't able to join in the fun.  This boy cried and cried and cried.  He wanted to go to the top so bad.  We were able to take a peek inside for a quick second. I actually think that made it worse! Man, this boy knows how to throw one heck of a tantrum. :)
Mylie climbing and posing.. quite a talent if you ask me.
At the top.  I heard the views were gorgeous.
Luke and I kept ourselves busy touring the other little displays around the lighthouse.  He loved learning about this son of a lighthouse keeper.. and he especially loved his bike.
All the lighthouses in South Carolina.. and one cute dude.
After the crew made it down, we headed to the beach, which luckily wasn't too far.
Justin pointed out that it's pretty rare to have a beach right off of such a densely wooded area.  It was beautiful.  We spent some time looking for shells and cooling off in the water.
