Trauma Drama

Mylie has been obsessing about getting her hair cut since I hacked at Luke's a few weeks ago. I told her that she could actually go and get it cut at Cookie Cutters-- a kids salon. She was ecstatic for days. We tried to get her an appt on Saturday, but they were booked. I was thrilled to be able to get her an appt on Wednesday morning.

We talked about it all morning and Mylie was beyond excited. When we arrived at Cookie Cutters, she started to get a little shy. No big deal. I helped her pick out a movie to watch... then she was able to pick out a car to sit in. She was very reluctant to get in the car, but one of the gals tried to bribe her with a sucker. No luck. Mylie then started to freak out. I offered just to hold her and they could cut it while she was in my lap... as I go to pick her up.. she starts thrashing... screaming... kicking and hitting. I was in shock! How could she be freaking out like this when she begged to get her hair cut??

In the meantime, Luke was content playing by himself on a little jungle gym. Sure enough, he ends up falling and screaming just as Mylie started her tantrum. Wow. We were quite the spectacle.

I decided to throw in the towel and head home.

As we are driving home... Mylie is still screaming... but this time, to go back and get her hair cut. Are you kidding me?? I told her she missed her opportunity when she chose NOT to minutes ago. She proceeded to scream all the way home. I unloaded Luke and told her she needed to stay in the garage until she was ready to stop screaming. She stayed in the garage screaming for 10 straight minutes!!! After that, she came in, still screaming. I then told her she needed to go to her room until she was ready to stop screaming. She then proceeded to scream in her bedroom for another 10 minutes.

Once she regained her composure, she came out to the family room and said, "I'm sorry for being naughty, Mom." Oh my. I was beyond frazzled and upset at that point. What was meant to be a fun morning ended up in a disaster that I wasn't prepared for!

For days, Mylie continued to ask for a hair cut. I finally agreed that she could have one, but that I would cut it.

Here she is, towels like Mom... out of the bath, ready for her haircut.

The no-tear version of a hair cut. :)

The result... view of the back. I ended up cutting some layers... giving her curl some life. It turned out really cute!

One happy girl.

Who knew a haircut could be so much drama??
