Christmas at our house...

I'll be honest... I get a little neurotic when it comes to decorating for Christmas. I start and have to finish the day after Thanksgiving! The Christmas music comes out and the presents get wrapped. That's right... I'm all done Christmas shopping! Crazy, huh!? I'm telling you... neurotic! I love it though...and I think my family does too! I hope so! :) I was a little worried about our tree and the destructive Mylie.. but she's done really well. I bought some new "shatterproof" ornaments for the bottom of the tree and about midway up the glass pretty ones start. It works really well and I'm impressed with how well she's doing. The new ornaments are really cute too.. and they look just as gorgeous as the glass ones! Love it! It's crazy to think that last year she was barely crawling... and now... well... you know. Wow!

We're starting a new tradition this year... one that was shared from someone in my ward last Christmas. I created a Christmas Tradition and Recipe handout for our ward's party last year. See here. Anyway, I loved the idea of wrapping and opening your Christmas books:

Christmas Books
Every year I get our children’s Christmas books out of storage, wrap them in pretty Christmas paper, and place them under our Christmas tree. Each night one of our little girls gets to pick out a present to open (one of the wrapped-up books) which we then read together for their bedtime story. On Christmas Eve they receive a new Christmas book to open, and we read it together as a family. This new book will be added to the collection to be wrapped and placed under the tree the following Christmas. We enjoy the fact that each year the number of books increases and therefore the number of days increase that we get to open and read a Christmas book together.

Thanks Budges! We're excited for this new tradition at our house! I love this season... the... smells... sounds... excitement about giving... lights...traditions...parties... yummy treats...time together as family.... and of course... the celebration of our Savior's birth, life and gift to us! What a wonderful time!

Do you have any fun traditions at your house?

I always read the Gift of the Magi to the kids each Christmas Eve before bed. It has happened since Logan was a small little one.
