With Justin's 2-week paternity leave coming to a close, I started to get a little melancholy. Okay, not just a little bit.. I was tearing up about it all.the.time. I was so spoiled while he was home! He basically took care of everything else, while I tended to and fed Ethan. We were quite the team.
The idea of holding down the fort solo had me in a panic.
I really wanted to make the most of his time home and go to the zoo... or something equally as fun as a family, while most the world was working or at school. But, I also had to take it easy and recover, so we were limited in the distance we could walk and the time we could be away. We decided that Farm Country was the perfect getaway. It's only 25 mins away and doesn't require too much walking... with benches scattered throughout. Perfect.
The kids loved the idea of getting out of the house. We let Mylie play hooky... all two hours of her short Fridays.. went out to lunch and then headed south. It was apparent just how stir crazy the kids had been.
Waiting to ride the horses and ponies. We all know how Mylie feels about horses.. but I was anxious to see how Luke would like it. He talked a good game..
And loved it just as much as his big sis.
Mylie almost looks giant! A seasoned rider.. that's for sure.
They fed the ducks...
..and Ethan started to feel left out and wanted to be fed as well. If you ask him, he'd tell you he was starving to death.
Happiest jailbirds I know..
These are the saddest faces they could muster..
Me and my babe... 11 days old.
Big man and little man..
As I relished in the moment, I kept referring to all the fun we had as our last hurrah. Justin, sensing my anxieties, tried to remind me that we had many more opportunities for fun as a family with his remaining vacation days.
Cute man.
It ended up being the perfect outing. I was a little sore afterward.. and I'm so glad Justin kept me in check by suggesting that the zoo probably would be too much for me to handle.
He was right.
This was just what we needed. The perfect finale to a wonderful 2 weeks.
