Last Day of Kindergarten

Wow.  Has it been a full school year already? Wasn't I just teary-eyed over my baby girl starting kindergarten? Pretty sure that just happened.
Well.. our Mylie Anne continues to grow, mature and surprise us every single day.
My most favorite thing about this year was Mylie loved going to school. She was eager to learn, play with her friends and get out of the house! She loves feeling grown up and loved having a schedule.  She was always double checking to make sure I remember when she was supposed to be where. Was it our carpool day? Was she supposed to bring anything to school?  If something out of the ordinary was happening, she'd quiz me even more!
This girl has an amazing memory!

This year Mylie learned to read, complete math equations and her handwriting improved.
She continues to love art and creating new things.  The best part.. she just simply loves to learn.
She also lost two teeth and performed in her first choir, in addition to three kindergarten performances.
Oh.. my three babes.  I loved capturing this moment today. I'm pretty sure the most exciting thing this year was the arrival of her baby brother.  Mylie continues to be the best helper with Ethan.  She's constantly doting over him, helping him and fulfilling his every desire.

However, Luke wins the best brother award.  He's been Mylie's number one fan every step of the way.  He'd hang on every word about her day and her latest project/sport/excitement. She was pretty sweet to him as well.  She would always come home from school and share whatever goodies she acquired, which I find pretty amazing for her age.  She's always been a sharer... even through her preschool years.
Lucky for us.. Ethan couldn't love the attention from his siblings any more. Poor boy is never left alone so it's a good thing he's fond of it. He loves to be right alongside the 'big kids' doing 'big kid stuff'.  They can always make Ethan smile and laugh.
After throwing around ideas, Mylie and I decided she would paint Ms. Calhoun a picture for her 'end of the year' gift.  Mylie loved picking out the canvas and brainstorming what to paint.  She decided to paint some flowers.  I never get nervous over her artwork unless it's for someone.  After she picked out all the colors, she was off. All I could do was stand by and hope it was cute.
And well... I couldn't be more proud of her finished product.  This girl honestly amazes me.
She has an artistic eye and she's improving every single day.
That improvement is due to the hours and hours she spends drawing and coloring daily.
And of course, no gift is complete without a card.  Mylie loves drawing portraits of herself with her favorite people.  This card couldn't have been more perfect.
Ms. Calhoun has been such a fun and wonderful teacher this year.  I'm so grateful for wonderful educators that dedicate their lives to bettering the lives of these little people.
They are our future and it sure looks bright!

I was able to volunteer during field day today.  It was so fun to see all the little kindergartners running around, being active and thoroughly enjoying themselves.  I was at the sit-up station.  They were timed to see how many they could do in one minute.  The real sit ups.  Hard stuff.
I was impressed at how many kids kept coming back for more.

Mylie was constantly looking over at me and waving her little arm off.  It was wonderful to see her in her element.  But.. the real exciting part was watching Mylie in the 50 yard dash.  We've always known this girl can run.  I mean.. what 2-3 year old likes to go to the park and race the whole time?  This girl!

I missed seeing her run the first time and asked her to go back and do it again. She lost one of her sandals mid-run, so I encouraged her to run barefoot.  Well... needless to say... she didn't lose one race after that.

Heat after heat, she'd win.  They called a final race with all the fastest kids.. girls and boys in her kinder class... and sure enough, she cleaned house.  She did tie with another girl that was a cousin of a girl in her class, who was a little older, so I don't count that at all.  Mylie was deemed the 'real' winner.  Oh, she was elated.. as was I!
She's a natural runner... her stride.. her ability to watch the competition in her peripheral vision.. and her ability to go all out when it counts.  Runner all the way, baby!!
Can't wait to see what she chooses to do with this talent.  She carried her ribbon around all day.  Go Mylie!

For dinner, we met Justin at the park for pizza to celebrate this special day.
The kids played hard and were anxious to go home and partake of ice cream sundaes.

Mylie mentioned earlier in the day that she wanted to get her ears pierced.  She's said that before and changed her mind a LOT.  I figured by the end of the day she'd forget about it or be too scared.  Well, after pizza, she was ready.  So.. we headed to Claire's to get it done.  We're so spontaneous! :)
She had heard the whole spiel before.  The dots, the pain but just for a sec, the after care.. etc, etc, etc.  She knew the drill! She was a little scared but was so brave at the same time.
Sure enough, this girl didn't even flinch! No tears, no drama.  What?! It was so wonderful! She looks darling.
Mylie loves them and is beyond excited!
Luke on the other hand is tired of hearing about it.  Poor guy, he's been such a good sport all day long.. but I think he hit his limit.
It doesn't help that Mylie keeps repeating to him, "Luke, do you know... (continues on about her ribbon, earrings, etc)??" His reply tonight before bed, "I KNOW!!!!!"
He was excited for her all day long.. and I think he just ran of out excitement.
He also ran out of, "Cool, Mylie! Wow! That's so awesome!  You're so great. I wanted to see the race. Can I get my ears pierced too?" Because there were a lot of those things said as well.
I think we'll be playing a lot of t ball tomorrow.
So... our Mylie Anne is now just a little bit more grown up.  Ears pierced and a kindergarten graduate!
That was definitely something I didn't foresee happening today.

I can't believe in exactly 7 weeks, this cute girl will start 1st grade!
I don't know what I'm going to do with her gone all day. It's going to kill me.
When Mylie started kindergarten, everyone said, "You think this is hard, just wait until she starts first grade.  That's the really hard one."
I'm beginning to get it.  It is going to be the really hard one.

But.. for now.. we'll just play, play, play! I can't wait to have some summer fun!

School's out for... summer!!
