HFMD... again!

Getting sick is one thing our little family is great at! For some reason.. if there's a bug, we'll catch it.  My kids don't have the best immune systems, but what do ya do.  It's going to be a loooonnnngg winter.

Just after getting over some nasty colds... our little Luke was hit with HFMD again.
Seriously? Yes. Seriously. Again.

I hate this illness.  It's highly contagious and lasts forever.

Luke's blisters appeared Thursday, which means we've been on lock down since.  Ugh.  This mom can only take being quarantined so long.  But not only that, Luke's been beyond miserable.  Last night was the first night in the last 5 that he slept through the night.  He was up every other night crying out in pain and thrashing around.  Yuck.  He walks around all day, hands in mouth, crying... saying "It hurts, Mom. It hurts!"  It breaks my heart to see my little guy in pain. The blisters in his mouth are really bad this time and in areas which makes it hurt to talk and eat. Poor Luker.

And...poor Mylie.  The worst part is, she has to be quarantined alongside Luke, just in case.  You are contagious before you even know you have it! Especially for my kids, because they don't present with the fever typically associated with it.  She's missed preschool, primary and is pretty much bored out of her mind! But, can't chance sharing it.

I dreaded today.. after a tiring weekend, I wasn't ready to start another week of this.

But.. after a little pep talk from Ellice this morning, I decided to make the best of today.  We picked up a Redbox... went through the Kneaders drive-thru.. and came home for a picnic in the basement!  The kids loved the movie and I loved my much deserved yummy lunch.

Today isn't as bad as I anticipated.  I might even venture to say.. today is what I made it.

Ironically enough, the YW lesson I taught yesterday was on "Come What May and Love It." I'm still working on the loving it part.. but I'm definitely trying to make the best out of a not-so-fun situation.

What a great reminder of how grateful I am for healthy kids. Kids that catch bugs here and there, but kids that are healthy.  Kids that don't have life-threatening diseases or physical impairments.  What a blessing.

I'll take the little sickness here and there... because in the grand scheme of things.. it really isn't that bad.
